About

Find Out More About Us

The Nigerian Canadian Baptist Church of Toronto (NCBC) is a Church that is open to all children of God and to all seekers of the truth. The Bible says, "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all" (Ephesians 4:4-6). This Body of Christ is only denominational by name, however, we are interdenominational in our doctrine, belief and practice. In light of that, our door is wide open to all people regardless of their nationality or religious affiliation. We know that Jesus, the Owner of the Church transcends denominations - as He knows no denominations, so we do not either. Put in a French term, “nous sommes sans frontiers” meaning, we are without boundary, we are non-discriminatory, we welcome everyone regardless of his or her language, nationality, age, gender, race, colour or denominational attachment. Prophet Isaiah (as quoted by Jesus Christ Himself) says, ".... for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people" (Isaiah 56:7) this is our stance.

In a nutshell, Jesus is central in our message; we focus mainly on salvation, life eternal - which is contingent upon Jesus' self-sacrifice on the cross. We can categorically say like Paul the Apostle that we preach “Jesus Christ and Him Crucified” (I Corinthians 2:2). The Word of God says, "Taste and see that the LORD is good;..." (Psalm 34:8). Therefore, come and join us for a worship service to experience a taste of the Lord's goodness.

Minister's Profile

About Our Minister

John Adedapo is an ordained Pastor. He is a pastor, church-planter, counselor, and teacher of the Word. God has used him both at home and abroad for His Kingdom expansion. The Rev. Adedapo was trained in the most prestigious Baptist Seminary in Nigeria. After his seminary training, he has served in different capacities. He was the Assistant National Director for the Evangelism and Stewardship Department of the Nigerian Baptist Convention at the Convention Headquarters - that was in the early '90's.

Pastor John Adedapo (as he loves to be called), has a Baptist background though, he has served God outside the Baptist communities through seminars, revival services, Bible Study and prayer meeting convener as well as other ministerial assignments within other Christian Organizations. He is very fond of giving lectures and seminars on Stewardship, Evangelism, Marriage, Leadership, and Discipleship within and outside the Baptist denomination. Likewise, he preached Revival Services and Open Air Crusades in different settings and places especially in Nigeria. Needless to say that Pastor Adedapo has enthusiasm for salvation messages - rain or sunshine.

Pastor John Adedapo together with his wife, Comfort received the “Macedonian Call” in the mid-90's to serve on the pastorate of a church in Niamey, Republique du Niger where they passionately served the Lord for more than five years. From Niamey, he proceeded to the United States of America for further theological studies.

John Adedapo, with his family was divinely led to Canada some few years ago; and he has since continued in the Lord's work. He has been instrumental in the founding of the Nigerian Canadian Baptist Church of Toronto in Canada. Pastor Adedapo is happily married to his wife, Comfort. And God has blessed their marriage with three kids who also have love for the advancement of God's kingdom work. We thank God for His anointing upon this humble man of God.

Hermeneutics

Hermeneutics

The purpose of this section is to appropriate some of the misinterpretations of the Word of God. The Minister in charge, John Adedapo sometimes refers to this section as "Righting the Wrong Doctrines and Teachings Around Us". It is an Apologetics section. In Jesus' days there were different religious groups such as the Sanhedrin, the Sadducees, the Scribes, and of course, the Pharisees, to mention but just a few. Some adherents of these groups confronted Jesus (on many grounds) especially of blasphemy based on their own logic, theories, secular knowledge and myopic understanding of the Word. Unfortunately, the contemporary church is not immune. Christianity today is still facing similar challenges being full of different religious organisations and bigots with their own heresies, human-adulterated doctrines, diluted teachings and indoctrinations. Many of these heretics intentionally target the Word of God - to antagonize the Word, to discredit Jesus' salvation work, as well as to rubbish God's salvation plan. Our Pastor invalidates some of these false teachings cum fallacies in the face of the true Word of God.

But why are erroneous teachings still rampant in our society today? his is due to a number of reasons: Some do misinterpret because of sheer ignorance: their shallow or limited understanding of the Scripture. Some people do it intentionally to distort the truth and mislead the gullible or to derail and misguide others from the true way. For some, it is due to their faulty initial religious background - with unholy passion they jump into the scripture and begin to teach. Some do it only to fill their own belly - their stomach is their god, Philippians 3:19 says, ”Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things” (NIV). Also for some it is to make jest, trivialize the Word of God. And of course, others do it in order to please the people - what their people want to hear is what they teach and preach. Whether it is intentional or otherwise, we are here to address as well as to rectify it.

The Bible says, “Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction” (2 Peter 3:15-16) NIV.

Here in this section, our Pastor, John Adedapo opens the Word of God right before us sometimes with different analogies. You cannot afford to miss any of these appropriation teachings and explanations with biblical illustrations.
